Changes to services from 15th December - 6th November 2008
Oxfordshire County Council has completed a review of the buses it
financially supports in the Chipping Norton area and has awarded the
contracts for Cotswold Line Railbus services to RH Transport Services
for a further four years. However, there will be major changes to
existing services from Monday 15th December and these are outlined
below.
C1 Charlbury Railbus
Most journeys will be withdrawn. Four journeys will be provided in the
morning before 0830 and afternoon after 1700 on Mondays to Fridays to
meet the most popular trains. Some of these journeys will serve the
Wychwoods (Shipton and Ascott) as well as Leafield and Finstock. Buses
will no longer serve Plum Lane.
During the middle of the day the Wychwoods will be served by a revised
X8 Kingham Railbus.
A pre-bookable 'on-request' service (T1) will be offered from the
villages of Leafield and Ramsden only to Charlbury Town Centre and
Charlbury Station. The journeys will operate to a timetable but will
only run if booked in advance. The regular X9 bus service will serve
Finstock at these times (but will not go to the station).
X8/233 Kingham Railbus
At peak times on Mondays to Saturdays, buses will operate between
Chipping Norton - Churchill - Kingham and Kingham Station as they do
now. However, during the middle of the day, buses will be extended from
Kingham Station to the Wychwoods (Milton, Shipton and Ascott) via
Foscott, Idbury and Fifield villages. Buses to and from Chipping Norton
will be timed to connect with most trains to and from Oxford.
In Chipping Norton, Cornish Road and Walterbush Road will no longer be
served and all buses will travel along Churchill Road and West End
instead.
The village of Bledington (Gloucestershire) will no longer be served.
The weekday X8A shoppers bus from the villages of Cornwell and Salford
is also withdrawn.
Sunday service (233) will
be introduced on 1st February 2009 between Chipping Norton and Witney
via Kingham Station, Wychwoods, Burford and Minster Lovell. It will be
operated by Stagecoach in Oxfordshire and is being introduced for a
trial period.
More Information
Further details about these changes, and timetables for the revised
Railbus services, will appear on this website once they have been agreed
with the county council.
